Everything starts with an evaluation of your MRI images.
The Modic diagnosis is still relatively new, and there is therefore limited specialist expertise in detecting Modic changes. This means that you may have Modic changes even if it is not stated in your MRI report. In order for us to choose the right treatment for you, we must first evaluate your MRI images.
The images should not be more than 8–12 months old. You may obtain a sharing code for healthcare professionals from the department where the MRI was performed. If not, and you have the MRI image files yourself, you may send them via WeTransfer to post@modicklinikken.oslo.no
You will normally receive a report from us within 10 business days.
Fee: 500 NOK
For patients already enrolled at Modic Clinic:
Booking a Modic consultation.
-
If the MRI assessment shows clear Modic changes and you wish to proceed, you can book an appointment here with a specialist adviser/physical therapist.
The first consultation lasts 120–150 minutes.
We recommend that you bring a companion, because the information is extensive.
If needed, a video consultation can be used.
During this visit we review:
your MRI findings
your complete medical history
daily function and work situation
goals and expectations
Together we create a 24‑month plan and decide how the treatment course can best be tailored to your situation.
Booking a follow-up consultation.
For patients already enrolled at Modic Clinic:
-
Systematic follow‑up over 24 months
We follow you up at the start, and then at 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months.
We use standardized questionnaires such as Roland–Morris and Liveremet to measure pain and function. We adjust the plan and the individual content along the way based on your needs. For example:
Individually adapted physical training, starting gently and gradually building up, with a focus on function and everyday activities, using exercises you can do at home with follow‑up and adjustments.
Pacing – you learn to distribute your energy wisely and avoid overloading yourself on good days. We help you find a steady rhythm in everyday life with planned breaks and varied activities. The goal is that, over time, you will tolerate more load without relapse.
Psychological support when needed, as we know that long‑term pain affects thoughts, feelings and relationships. We focus on coping and mastery, not on whether “the pain is real or not”.
Work, activity and everyday life, where we can have a dialogue about work: sick leave, graded return, workplace adjustments and ergonomic guidance. If you agree, we can also provide your employer or local health provider with information about your condition.
Consultation with a specialist physician.
The clinic’s specialist physician carries out a thorough review of your medical history and, when needed, a clinical examination, as well as prescribing any necessary medication. Appointments are made directly with the clinic.
